Herbs For Samhain

Herbs For Samhain

Samhain is almost here! Let’s celebrate by talking about some herbs. But first let’s talk about the thinning of the veil. The veil being thin refers to the boundary between the physical world and the spiritual becomes thinner. This makes it easier to connect with spirits, ancestors, or devine energies. It is a powerful time for divination, as messages and insights from the other side can come through more clearly. It’s an ideal time to work with herbs, tools, and practices that enhance intuitive abilities and connection.

Herbs for divination as the veil thins:

  • Eyebright - 3rd eye opening
  • Comfrey - Grounding and protection during divination. Can also help connecting with your sprit guides
  • Blessed Thistle - can clear negative energy, making divination readings clearer and more focused
  • Mugwort - Intuition and divination

You can use these items in anointing oil, tea blends, or a charm bag. You can also use these in a smoke blend used while communicating with your guides or ancestors during Samhain.

As a bonus, here is a great Samhain or autumnal spell for manifestation.

Autumn Harvest Manifesting Ritual

  • Materials: a small pumpkin, cloves, rosemary, cinnamon, orange candle
  • Carve a small hole at the top of the pumpkin, enough to create a vessel
  • Set your intention: Write what you wish to manifest on a piece of paper and place it in the pumpkin with the herbs
  • Light the candle and place it in or near the pumpkin and focus on your attention as it burns. Visualize the pumpkin absorbing and amplifying your intentions
  • Bury the pumpkin: once the candle is done burning, bury the pumpkin. As it returns to the earth, it symbolically “grows” your intention
